Ukraine flag bunting for refugees

Wherever there's a crisis, there is community crafting.

If you can crochet or knit a few rows, please make a Ukraine flag or two for our refugee bunting project.

We'll string everyone's little flags into a garland and donate them to refugees arriving in Australia from Ukraine via local community associations. It is hoped the bunting might be hung in new homes to remind Ukrainian refugees that people care, and to remind them of their homeland.

Instructions

1. Crochet or knit a flag in wool or acrylic yarn. Finished flags should measure approx. 12cm x 8cm maximum.

We used 8ply and a 4mm crochet hook and did 3 rows of each colour (a chain of 20 stitches then 6 rows of UK treble stitches). You can add a border if desired, but it's not essentialBe sure to use bright blue/azure blue and bright, golden yellow yarn. We found a good blue in our stash of Cleckheaton Country wool and some bright yellow acrylic. Spotlight’s 8ply Marvel acrylic in Victoria Blue and Sun Gold also work well.

2. Take a photo of your creation and post it on social media, tagging @lily_and_dot on Instagram or Facebook.com/LilyandDot if desired

3. Mail it (please include your name and your suburb/town/city so we can share how far the flags have travelled), to:
